The Russians Are Coming
A Priceless Learning Exchange
EMMITSBURG, MD – Mount St. Mary’s University School of Business welcomes Russian professors and students from South Ural State University in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
South Ural’s Marketing and Communications Professor Olga Shabalina and Deputy Dean of International Affairs Dr. Liudmila Shestakova, along with 15 students will visit and stay on the Mount campus beginning the week of March 8, 2010.
The visiting students and faculty will participate in joint projects with Mount business students. Joint faculty workshops are planned along with a series of classroom activities, cultural exchanges and sightseeing tours.
This trip is part of a collaboration which began in the fall of 2008 when Mount students visited South Ural University on a cultural and academic exchange. Last semester Mount Professor Sandra Sjoberg and Professor Shalbalina taught an international marketing class in tandem by using Skype, an internet based conference service. Shalbalina lectured from Russia while Sjoberg lectured from the Mount. Students from both schools simulated a global business team through the class collaboration.
"Having the South Ural University group here at the Mount is a great learning experience and a wonderful collaboration for both universities," says Dr. William Forgang, dean of the Mount’s School of Business. “The combined learning for all involved from international marketing to cultural exchanges will be priceless.”
The Russian business students will also compete against the Mount and other universities in Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) - Business Ethics Case Competition on Monday, March 8, 2010.
