On December 23, 2008 the Frederick Police Department took a report of a stolen painting from the Frederick Arts Council located at 15 W. Patrick St. The painting, by local artist Carol Hutson, depicted the Roddy Road Covered Bridge. The painting was valued at $2,000. The investigation into the theft offered few leads and the case was eventually suspended.
On August 25, 2009 the Frederick Police Department was contacted by an unidentified man who advised he was in possession of the missing painting. He presented the artwork to police and it was verified to be the Roddy Road Covered Bridge painting from the Frederick Arts Council. The man is not believed to be involved in the theft. The investigation has been reopened by the Criminal Investigation Division and detectives are working to identify the person responsible for the theft.
