Zany Umbrella Circus

July 29, 2009, Frederick, MD - Pittsburgh, P.A. group, Zany Umbrella Circus, will be frolicking on the Baker Park Bandshell stage Thursday, August 13th, presenting their one-man show, My Grandfather’s Circus. This free live performance—part of the Summerfest Family Theatre, presented by Celebrate Frederick, Inc.—begins at 10:30 a.m. Following the performance in the bandshell, families will enjoy a special end of summer social featuring snacks, games and activities for the kids.

Zany Umbrella Circus merges puppetry, circus, music, storytelling and street theatre to educate, build and strengthen communities. The group’s mission is to spark imagination while teaching life-long lessons. . Ben Sota is the Executive Director of the Zany Circus, and his solo show, My Grandfather’s Circus is based on his grandfather’s stories about growing up during the dust bowl and how he was able to create circus where whimsy was unexpected; everyday objects will come to life and a circus will be created out of an unlikely situation! End the summer on a high-note with this performance that you cannot miss!

Immediately following the performance of My Grandfather’s Circus is the annual Summerfest Family Theatre social. Join us for games, treats, and a whole lot of fun. This event is set to take place at the Carillon area of Baker Park. Meet Sneaks the Cat, courtesy of Friends of the C. Burr Arts Library. And, plan to help decorate the Celebrate Frederick KidzArts Mural. Free fun from 11:30am – 1:00pm.

While all Summerfest Theatre performances are free to the public, the Summerfest Family Theatre Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick Food Bank.
