The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek (RCCC) will be presenting the fourth annual Police Officer and Educator of the Year Awards at Lincoln Elementary School, 250 Madison Street in Frederick on Wednesday, May 6th, 2008 at 9:00 am.
This annual awards program is just one component of the club’s ongoing partnerships with both The City of Frederick Police Department and Lincoln Elementary School. The partnership spans 12 years and has included numerous projects that donate time and resources to the school.
The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek has awarded law enforcement education scholarships, has been instrumental in the construction of the Police Activity League (PAL) Center, and stays actively involved with the PAL center and its programs that support youth.
The May 6th event is the club’s opportunity as members of the Frederick community to recognize the outstanding work, dedication and commitment of our city’s police officers and the educators and staff at Lincoln Elementary School.
The recipients will each be presented with the Rotary Foundation’s prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship, named after the founder of Rotary. These awards are given in recognition and appreciation of the recipients’ contributions to the humanitarian and educational objectives of the Rotary Foundation. The club sponsors and presents these awards annually to members of the community, who exemplify Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self” through their dedicated service and contributions to the community,
Rotary Club of Carroll Creek President Wally Olson stated that “The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is honored to recognize once again the dedication, service and outstanding work of the officers of the Frederick City Police department and the staff of Lincoln Elementary. Our longstanding partnership is just a small way for us to show both of these organizations how much we and the community appreciate all that they do. We look forward to a continued relationship and are pleased that we can recognize these individuals for their hard work.”
Lincoln Elementary Principal Ann Reever comments, “Our teachers and staff are honored and appreciate this recognition that the Carroll Creek Rotary Club bestows upon us. We are dedicated to meeting the mission of the Frederick County Public Schools. The goal of our teachers and staff is to help our students excel at academics and become citizens that will contribute to our community. We look forward to our continued work with the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek and appreciate the club’s efforts in partnering with our school.
In addition to honoring an Officer of the Year and Educator of the Year, the club will also present a Student of the Year Award, to a deserving student nominated by the school who has demonstrated the attributes of leadership, character and service to others; qualities that mirror the ideals of Rotary.
Presenting the awards will be RCCC President Wally Olson, Chief Kim Dine, and Principal Ann Reever. Invited guest will include members of the Board of Education, The County Commissioners, and the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The officers who have received the Officer of the Month award from the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek over the past year will also be in attendance, and this year’s Officer of the Year will be chosen from amongst them.
Chief Kim Dine said, “While many police departments have internal award programs, this public appreciation for their efforts is wonderful in so many ways. Our officers greatly appreciate this acknowledgment of their efforts to maintain and improve the quality of life in our great City of Frederick. I commend the men and women of the Frederick Police Department and extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Carroll Creek Rotary for all that they do for our officers and our city, and for their support of our work over the years.”
Both Principal Reever and Chief Dine are scheduled to speak.
