Arrest of Wanted North Carolina Man


On Friday, May 22, 2009, at approximately 4:45 pm, the Frederick Police Department was contacted by authorities in Surry County, North Carolina in reference to a wanted person who was believed to be in the Frederick area.

Oliver Coleman King, age 25, of Mount Airy, NC, had an arrest warrant for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and infliction of serious injury with intent to kill. The charges stemmed from a shooting that occurred on May 21, 2009 at approximately 8:30 pm in the 100 block of Eleanor Ave. in Mount Airy, NC. During that incident, a man was shot in the lower abdomen and was receiving treatment at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Based on information received from the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation, members of the Frederick Police Department responded to the area of the 1500 block of Andover Ln., where the vehicle King was reported to be operating was located in the driveway of a family member. Officers took up positions around the house until a search warrant for the property could be obtained.

Upon receiving a search warrant for the property, a call was made to the residence and King surrendered to police without incident. A search of the residence was conducted and no additional evidence was recovered.

King was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and served with a Fugitive Warrant. He is currently being held without bond awaiting an extradition hearing.
